Outbound from Reston

Our website contains information on alternative transportation methods you may use to get to and from Reston and other parts of the Washington Metropolitan Area.

Our Fairfax Connector Bus Schedules and Maps section features a search for bus routes to and from West Falls Church Metro. Maps are provided to show the entire route. How to make Connections provides some of the Metro stations and the buses that service these stations.

Our Business and Retail Locator provides you with the location of larger Reston businesses in the event you are originating from a popular location within Reston. You will see which bus routes travel close to each business and will be able to determine where those buses travel. For each bus route, you can see a map overlay and view the relevant schedule.

Carpools and vanpools are a popular form of alternative transportation. We provide a registration form for ride matching. We are a member of MWCOG's of Commuter Connections.

Transportation news effecting the local Reston area can be found in our Press Release pages.

Our Links page leads you to additional information about transportation services and information in the Washington Metropolitan area.

We welcome you to the site and encourage you to explore the transportation alternatives.

Bike to Work Day 2008
2/8/2008 - Join hundreds of bicycle commuters to celebrate Bike to Work Day on Friday, May 16, 2008, from 6:30 to 9:00 a.m. at the Reston Town Center. Each year since 2002, cyclists have gathered at the Town Center for a free breakfast, raffles of bike-related prizes, and bicycling information tables. Pre-registered riders also get a free t-shirt. Hunter Mill Supervisor Cathy Hudgins will greet the riders at 8 a.m.

Last year 320 cyclists attended the event. Based on a survey of those cyclists, the average distance of their commute was 10 miles and it only took 20 minutes more by bike than by car. A round trip could save about $3 in gas and eliminate approximately 20 pounds of CO2 emissions. Why not go green and bike to work this year!

Reston Bike to Work Day is organized by the Reston Town Center Association, Fairfax County, Reston Association, Reston Bike Club, Friends of the W&OD Trail, and Fairfax Advocates for Better Bicycling. To register, visit www.waba.org.
